Springfield Preservation Trust is excited to announce its 2024 Preservation Awards at Loophole Brewing, 51-59 Taylor Street, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 7:00 pm.
Preservation Awards honor people and organizations helping to restore historic structures in Springfield. Every year, SPT showcases exemplary properties that represent the best preservation over the previous year. Preservation Awards are given to properties that have restored the historic look of a building by removing inappropriate siding, repairing or replicating original details, or generally bringing back a building that was in disrepair.
This year, the Trust will present the first annual Hilton Abbott Stewardship Award for Non-Residential Properties, which recognizes the numerous properties in Springfield that are commercially, religiously, or publicly owned and have been well-maintained over an extended period of time (50 years or more) by their owners. This award is named after preservationist Hilton Abbott (1940-2023), who made a formidable impact on historic preservation in Springfield during his lifetime, through his volunteerism and stewardship of multiple historic properties. Read about Abbott’s legacy in our Winter 2023 Newsletter: https://springfieldpreservation.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/2024.1-January-Winter-Newsletter.pdf
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about historic preservation. SPT recognizes awardees for their role in preserving Springfield’s unique architectural heritage. These awards honor the dedication of the recipients. Additionally, these awards demonstrate how historic buildings can be transformed, maintained, and become vibrant centers of growth for Springfield.
Following the award ceremony will be a brief tour of the Loophole Brewing, which was built in 1881 for the Springfield Steam Power Company.
A cash bar and snack options will be available by Loophole Brewing. On-street parking on Taylor, Bridge, Worthington, Lyman, and Dwight Streets is free after 6 pm. Paid parking is available at 73 Taylor St, and the TD Bank parking lot at 230 Dwight Street.
Admission is free, and donations are welcome and encouraged. Please RVSP on Eventbrite by May 13:
