Old Sturbridge Village, Celtic Celebration

March 16 - March 17

In the early 19th century, skilled Irish immigrants came to Worcester County to work on the Blackstone Canal and the railroads. Join us today as we celebrate their cultural heritage through music, dance, storytelling, and poetry.

Highlights for the weekend include:

  • Listen to popular Celtic music from early 19th-century New England as well as a demonstration of the Scottish bagpipes and a performance of music by the Celebrated Mrs. Wood (Mary Ann Paton)
  • Watch a Step Dancing Performance by the Lee Irish Dance School (Saturday) or the Greene-Roy Academy of Irish Dance (Sunday)
  • Learn about the Montgomery Guards, the first all-Irish militia company in the Massachusetts Militia
  • See Celtic artifacts on exhibit in the Bullard Tavern
  • Listen to a performance by Celtic Harper Cate Mahoney (Sunday only) and learn about the history of the harp
  • Enjoy weekend lunch specials at the Bullard Tavern Café

And more!

We will also be showcasing the entire maple sugar-making process as this weekend is also Maple Days.
