Old Sturbridge Village, Baseball and BBQ

Join us as we celebrate summer favorites: baseball and BBQ! The Village will bustle all day with tons of fun for the whole family. Learn about the history of baseball and step up to bat. Play classic early American games on the Common, meet and greet our sheep, chickens, cattle, and pigs, and learn about summer in 19th-century New England.

Times: The Village is open from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm

Cost: Included with standard daytime admission or Village membership. Standard daytime admission is $30 for adults, $28 for seniors (55+), $15 for youth (4-17), $15 for college students (with a valid college ID), and free for children 3 and under. SAVE $3/person by purchasing your tickets online instead of at the door! Food and drink are also available for purchase.

Come for the Food

  • On the menu at Bullard Tavern will be savory BBQ pulled pork, plenty of tasty sides, and more from the grill*.
    *Grilling is weather dependent. Bullard Tavern will be open 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Be sure to stop by the Scoop Shop for an ice cream treat. Our flavors change often and there is always something new to try.
  • Ox & Yoke Café serves seasonal specials such as ice-cold strawberry lemonade and hot blueberry coffee.

Stay and Shop

In the Ox & Yoke Store and Miner Grant Store shop for things useful and fun this season! Bring home tempting ice cream toppings, colorful cocktail sugar rimmers, pretty floral towels, beautiful straw hats, mosquito repellant scarves, and environmentally friendly bug spray.

Did You Know?

  • In the early versions of baseball, batters ran the bases in a clockwise direction.
  • Baseball was known by a variety of names in the 19th century, including goal ball, round ball, town ball, and even baste ball.
  • The first organized, professional game of baseball in the United States was played between the New York Knickerbockers and the New York Nine in 1846. Of course, various versions of the sport were played as an informal game for decades (and even centuries) before, both in the United States and elsewhere.
  • In the 19th century, baseball bases were often stones or posts while the balls were made with leather and yarn wrapped around a bit of cork.
