Celebrate the small but mighty heroes of farms and gardens everywhere: bees! Chat with Old Sturbridge Village’s Beekeeper, Jim Dawber of Hillcrest Apiary, as he harvests honey from comb. Stroll through the Village’s gardens, featuring over 400 heirloom plants, and count how many bees you see. Visit The Beehive: The Secret Life of Bees Revealed (located near the Herb Garden) to learn about the historical story of beekeeping and see an active colony of bees hard at work. Visit select households for demonstrations of activities like a quilting bee and baking with honey. Shop for raw wildflower honey from OSV bees and a variety of bee-themed merchandise in our shops. Children will enjoy attending storytime with bee-themed books and doing a simple “build-a-bee” craft.
Did you know?
To produce a pound of honey, bees must gather nectar from approximately 2 million flowers. Just as bees transform simple nectar into golden honey, your contributions, no matter how big or small, have a transformative effect on Old Sturbridge Village.
