The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center is delighted to announce Dr. Bettina L. Love as the 2024 Stowe Prize for Literary Activism winner for her book Punished for Dreaming: How School Reform Harms Black Children and How We Heal (St. Martin’s Press, 2023).

Before the public program, stop by the Social Justice Fair in Fellowship Hall at Immanuel Congregational Church to meet representatives from a variety of local organizations, learn about the important work they are doing, and find out how you can get involved.

Enjoy the public lecture on Punished for Dreaming with Dr. Love in conversation with Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez, Superintendent of Hartford Public Schools in The Sanctuary at Immanuel Congregational Church.

Guests are invited to park for free at The Mark Twain House & Museum lot at 351 Farmington Ave in Hartford, which requires a short walk to Immanuel Congregational Church. Free parking is also available along Woodland Street.
Accessible parking will be available in the parking lot behind the Town and County Club (22 Woodland Street). Guests may utilize the circular drive at Immanuel Congregational Church to drop someone off before parking.
