Special Lecture: Gary Powers Jr. on the Cold War & U-2 Incident.

The New England Air Museum is thrilled to announce a special lecture by Cold War historian Gary Powers Jr. on the Cold War and the U-2 Incident. This event will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 10 AM as part of the museum’s ongoing Adult Aerospace Academy series.

Gary Powers Jr.  is a renowned author of Enemy Territory (2022), Spy Pilot (2019), and Letters from a Soviet Prison (2017). He is the son of Gary Powers Sr., the U-2 pilot whose plane was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960, sparking an international incident during the Cold War.

In 2015, Powers consulted for the Steven Spielberg film “Bridge of Spies,” which dramatizes the 1962 spy exchange between KGB spy Rudolf Abel and CIA U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers Sr.

Powers is the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of The Cold War Museum in Vint Hill, VA, and has served as the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Cold War Theme Study, assisting the National Park Service in identifying historic Cold War sites for preservation. During his tenure as President and CEO of the Vienna Regional Chamber of Commerce (2000-2005), he helped establish the Tysons Corner Chamber of Commerce. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and master’s degrees in public administration and U.S. history. Powers lectures internationally and appears regularly on C-SPAN, the History Channel, and the Discovery Channel.
