Wistariahurst Museum is hosting a Sensory Friendly Sunday Funday on October 20th, 2024! Guests and their loved ones can stop by Wistariahurst Museum from 3 pm to 6 pm for an afternoon of fun activities. The museum will be spookily decorated for the Halloween season, with lights and sounds dimmed during the event. Enjoy the ambiance of our first floor and discover fun history by taking a self-guided tour with pamphlets available in English and Spanish. Guests can also enjoy a series of fun puzzle games and word searches centered around our museum, as well as large motor games that will be set up in the Music Room. We will also have a variety of board games for guests to engage with and enjoy.
That’s not all! Staff are on the lookout for Winston the Wisty Lion and need your help! Winston is sleeping somewhere in our museum, but we can’t find him! During your self-guided tour, keep your eyes open for our lethargic, little lion. When you find him, don’t shout and wake him up! Take a picture or selfie with him and show your picture to our front desk attendant to get an exclusive Winston sticker! Want to have more fun with our lazy lion? Search for Winston’s clues to answer historical questions and learn more about the museum while you explore each of the rooms. Best of all, there is no time limit to this scavenger hunt, so all can enjoy this activity at their own pace. At the end of your hunt, stop by the front desk to show your answers and win a fun prize!
Wistariahurst Museum will also have special guests: Professor Bugman, and his variety of insects! Stop by their hands-on Arthropod Petting Zoo table with Professor Bugman Entomology Adventures, where they have real live representatives from all 4 arthropod groups! From tiny isopod crustaceans to stinky trundling millipedes, incredible insects, and hair-raising enormous arachnids, come to see, touch, hear, and even smell these extraordinary animals and learn about how they adapt to their unique places in our world!
Our Sensory Friendly Sunday Funday is a great opportunity for all families with sensory sensitivities to enjoy our museum stress-free and at their own pace. This event is free and open to the public so that all families can enjoy this unique outing during the spooky season!
