Ilan Stavans returns to his Mexican childhood in his charming picture book, The Mexican Dreidel, about tradition, resilience, and a magical dreidel.
About The Mexican Dreidel: The Jewish and Latino holidays of Posadas Hanukkah and Posadas come together as Danielito, who lives in Mexico, is finally old enough to visit Bobe, his grandmother, by himself on Janucá. The kids in Bobe’s neighborhood play with Mexican tops called trompos. Danielito does not have a trompo, but he has a dreidel. Soon the trompos follow the dreidel as it spins through the neighborhood, and Danielito makes nuevos amigos—new friends.
The Mexican Dreidel is written by Linda Elovitz Marshall and Ilan Stavans and illustrated by Maria Mola.
