The Misanthrope – A Contemporary Twist on Molière’s Classic
On December 7th, 8th, and 9th, the Amherst College Department of Theater and Dance will present The Misanthrope by Peter DeLaurier. Taking place in contemporary Washington, D.C., this new adaptation of Molière’s biting satire tells the story of squabbling lovers and the privileged busybodies who scheme to cancel their relationship.
This reimagining of the classic play concerned with deceit and self-promotion was inspired in no small part by our modern political world and the self-serving politicians who dominate the headlines.
This production is directed by Professor Ron Bashford and stars a cast of ten students, with Clay Zachery ’24E and Petra Brusiloff ’24 playing the leads for their senior thesis projects in acting.
All performances will begin at 8:00 PM:
– Thursday, December 7, 2023
– Friday, December 8, 2023
– Saturday, December 9, 2023
