Participants will enjoy a 1.2 mile swim in the Connecticut River, a 56 mile bike ride through the rural roads of New England, and a 13.1 mile through downtown Springfield.
Last year the event was not only a success for the athletes involved, but for the region too. With 60 percent of the 1,400 competitors being from outside of the area, our hotels, restaurants, and other businesses saw an increase in traffic and we got a chance to showcase all Western Mass has to offer.
Even if you’re not up for participating, you’re VERY much invited to be a part of this awesome day. Spectators and cheering sections are highly encouraged. For more on the triathlon and for a turn-by-turn route plan (with appropriate times), check out our website.
Hooplandia! The largest 3×3 basketball competition on the East Coast, for both recreational and elite players, happens June 21 – 23 @ Eastern States Exposition. Designed to be an all-inclusive environment for players of all ages and playing abilities, players are invited to build teams of four, create their own unique team name and uniforms, and register today. And if you’re not into getting onto the court, then just come for the party because it’s also a fun festival jam-packed with experiences for attendees of all ages!

There are three terrific options in our area to explore:
- Crabapple Whitewater – experience thrilling adventures on the Deerfield and Millers Rivers catering to all levels of rafters.
- Berkshire Whitewater – featuring varied rapid class level trips along the Deerfield River, including Fife Brook and Monroe Bridge Dryway, as well as a more relaxing Afternoon Float.
- Zoar Outdoor – great for teamwork and/or stress relief, since nothing promotes teamwork quite like paddling together down a Class III rapid and stress relief intrinsically comes from being outside and focusing on the river.
- Zoar Outdoor – Prefer staying on the water, consider kayaking with guides ready to help you explore local lakes and rivers. Want to learn to kayak? Click here for info on “Learn to Kayak” day (May 4). Prefer the air over water, no worries… they offer a one-of-a-kind zipline experience with a 3-hour canopy tour consisting of 11 ziplines, 2 sky bridges, and 3 rappels that whisk you through a breathtaking landscape high above Deerfield River Valley.
- Berkshire East – your destination for all things adventure including zip line canopy tours, downhill mountain biking, the combination alpine slide and roller coaster – Thunderbolt Mountain Coaster (opens 5/25), and the suspended challenge course Aerial Adventure Park (opens 5/26) featuring elevated wooden platforms, rope cargo nets, bridges, ladders, short zip lines, and more.
- Northfield Mountain Recreation and Environmental Center – peaceful hikes and a spot to commune with nature featuring 26 miles of trails.
- Robinson State Park – a 1,000-acre state park that follows the course of the Westfield River, you can hike (or bike or walk) the park’s 20 miles of paved roads and trails.
- Mt. Tom State Reservation – at just over 1,200 ft. tall, Mt. Tom has a long history of being a ski area, hotel (Summit House), amusement park and more, but now it’s home to hiking galore, plus walking and biking (or if you’d like, you can even a drive up for scenic views).

And with only a few performances left in the season, we don’t want you to miss out.
- Bugs Bunny at the Symphony (May 4) – a pairing of the brilliant, iconic Looney Tunes projected on the big screen while their original classically-infused Carl Stalling scores are played live by the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.
- Magic & Glory – SSO’s Season Finale (May 18) – Mozart’s Overture to his opera The Magic Flute transports us into a magical world filled with hidden meaning, symbols and trials. Pure orchestral music (without a story or words) is free to be interpreted by each listener in a personal way and changes in perspective and meaning depending on our time, culture, and experiences.

An entertainment showstopper for over 70 years, it has also been so much more – providing extraordinary influence culturally, socially, and economically to the city of Holyoke and surrounding areas.
This year, the 71st annual celebration promises to continue to captivate all ages with its vibrant array of costumes, dazzling display of floats, marching bands (including a few “new-to-the-parade” groups), community spirit, and Irish pride. From bagpipers to flag twirlers, each contingent adds its own unique flair to the spectacle, culminating in a celebration of unity and diversity.
We’d love for you to come join us this year to live the experience and feel the excitement that has been around for over six decades in the city of Holyoke. However, with over 400,000 spectators expected we highly encourage you to plan ahead. The parade typically kicks off around 11 a.m., you will want to give yourself enough time to get to your location for viewing. The 2.65-mile parade steps off from the former Kmart Plaza parking lot on Northampton Street at 11:10 a.m. and makes its way to Hampden Street via Beech, Appleton, and High Streets. Click here for more information.
If you’re unable to be with us in person, don’t fret, you can join the over 1.2 million people viewing it live online (streaming on WWLP.com) or on television (in Western Mass on WWLP). For more information on streaming/TV viewing click here.

Located in the town where basketball was invented, you can’t miss the silver sphere, designed to be one of the most distinctive monuments in the world, punctuating the Springfield skyline. Conveniently located right off of Route 91 (MA), it’s super easy to get to if you’re driving in from New York, Boston, or Hartford.
You and the family will have a blast exploring three levels of basketball fun including artifacts, fan favorite memorabilia, movies, images, interactive exhibits, and the “Jerry Colangelo Court of Dreams.” Learn about the progression of the game from the initial peach baskets in the 1800s, all the way to the modern graphite backboard and hoop. Then round out the day by shooting and trying to dunk on the full-size regulation court.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner][mk_divider margin_top=”40″ margin_bottom=”40″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/12″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/4″][mk_image src=”https://difhosting1.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/old-sturbridge-village.jpg” image_width=”375″ image_height=”250″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Old Sturbridge Village – Maple Days” link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hoophall.com|target:_blank”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1706036699352{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Round out school vacation week with this local tradition. You and the kiddos can see the entire sugar-making process, from tapping the trees to “sugaring off,” and learn why maple sugar was more commonly used than maple syrup in early New England. Plus costumed historians will also cook period foods made with maple products and the tinner and cooper will make maple-related items.
